St Mary's has been the Parish church of Kentisbeare since medieval times and celebrated the 750th anniversary of its founding in 2009. The chequered design of the tower is unique in Devon and overall the church earns many pleasing comments from visitors for its warm and welcoming atmosphere. Music is a strong feature of the church with a robed choir and a peal of six bells rung by a team of enthusiastic bell ringers. The churchyard continues in use as a burial ground and is immaculately cared for.
